Â
During this immersive experience, you’ll connect with the people and programs dedicated to safeguarding Cozumel’s reefs for future generations.
Your day begins with an engaging introduction led by a reef restoration specialist. Through interactive displays and educational exhibits, you will discover:
You’ll also learn how coral nurseries cultivate young corals that may eventually be transplanted to nearby reefs to help rebuild healthy coral ecosystems.
Depending on the day’s needs, participants may assist with hands-on conservation efforts to support a healthy marine environment. Activities may include:
These activities highlight how responsible tourism can actively support marine conservation.
After the educational session and conservation activity, enjoy a guided snorkeling experience directly on the house reef at Sand Dollar Sports. This unique site features several coral restoration structures designed to support marine life and reef recovery.
Snorkelers can observe specially designed reef balls developed by the Reef Ball Foundation, which create stable habitats where corals and other marine organisms can grow. These artificial reef structures help rebuild reef ecosystems while attracting a wide variety of fish and invertebrates.
Another highlight of the house reef is the Zoe Living Sea Sculpture, an underwater sculpture that functions as both an artistic installation and a living reef structure. Over time, corals and marine life colonize the sculpture, transforming it into part of the surrounding reef ecosystem.
During your snorkel, you’ll witness how restoration platforms, reef balls, and reef-friendly structures work together to create a thriving marine habitat.
After snorkeling, relax on the beach and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. An on-site restaurant and bar offer delicious local food and refreshing drinks available for purchase.
By joining the Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Tour, you directly support community-driven conservation initiatives dedicated to protecting the reefs that make Cozumel world-famous for snorkeling and scuba diving.
This experience creates a deeper connection between visitors and the ocean while helping ensure these reefs remain vibrant for generations to come.
