Sunscreen and the Coral Reef

Studies have found that many of the sunscreen chemicals (even biodegradable ones) damage the coral reefs. It may protect your skin, but sunscreen directly affects coral tissue causing bleaching and damage to the coral’s DNA.

Finally, In Cozumel’s National Reef Park (Federal Protected Area) it is strictly prohibited to use of any kind of sunscreen.
